Obviously, he must have been nervous about the presently "close" national polls between he and McCain. Every time Obama made this promise in his speeches, I knew he would never keep it. How many other promises will Obama break before the end of this election? I guess it depends on how much he subscribes to the "win at all costs" motto.

As inconsistent as he is, I'm not exactly saddened to see someone not accept taxpayer funds for their campaign. The system of public financing is a sham and only serves to protect Republicans and Democrats from 3rd Party competition. The whole campaign financing system is an incumbent protection system.
Still, this is a broken promise by Obama.
